THXの設計チームは、THX認定機器を用いて、各劇場に最適な音響システムを設計します。機器の設置状況や、スピーカーの照準が適切かなどを確認し、さらに、THX認定のオーディオスペクトラムアナライザーや試験機器を用いて、THXおよび業界標準に基づいた精密な音響調整を行います。

THX® Certified audio systems and optimal acoustic correction

The THX Design Office creates a customized sound system design for each auditorium using THX-approved equipment.THX inspects whether the equipment is correctly installed, whether the speakers are properly aimed, and so on.

Furthermore, the sound system of a THX Certified theater is calibrated to THX and industry standards using a THX-approved audio spectrum analyzer and test equipment.

投影される映像はTHX基準を満たす必要があります。
THXは標準工業試験装置やテスト画像、専用の試験パターンを用いて、スクリーンの輝度やコントラスト、色の補正と精度、フォーカス解像度を評価します。
さらに、トリミングやゆがみを最小限に抑え、映像の隅々までスクリーンに正しく映し出されるよう調整します。

THX® Certified projection systems and optimal image correction

Projected image quality must meet THX specifications.

THX evaluates screen brightness, image contrast, color correction and accuracy, and focus resolution using standard industrial test equipment, test images, and dedicated test patterns.

Projected images are evaluated to ensure the entire image size is projected onto the screen with minimal cropping or distortion.

“映画の音”に、邪魔させない。3つの基準

アイソレーション

THX認定シネマは、外部からの音を遮断し、お客さまが映画の世界に没入できるよう、特別に設計された壁構造により静寂な空間を実現しています。THX認定とは、外部からの騒音に気を取られることなく、隣接する劇場からの音漏れもないことを意味します。

暗騒音

計測した劇場内のHAVCからの暗騒音レベルは、どのオクターブ帯域においてもNC-30を超えてはなりません。高レベルの暗騒音は映画のサウンドトラックにある繊細な効果を隠してしまうことがありますが、THX®認定劇場においては許容できません。

残響制御

音はしばし壁や、床、天井に反射し合成することがあります。THXは各劇場の残響時間の仕様を定め、音質を最適化します。テストの間測定した残響時間は、THX認定劇場ごとに算出した時間に適合することとしています。

Three Standards to Prevent Distractions from “Movie Sound”

Isolation

The THX Certified Cinemas are quiet with specifically designed wall structures to isolate the cinema from the outside world and allow the audience full movie immersion. THX Certified means the audience will not be distracted from external noises and no spill-over noise from adjacent auditoriums.

Background Noise

Measured background noise levels from the theater's HVAC system must not exceed NC-30 in any octave band. High background noise can obscure subtle effects in a movie's soundtrack and is unacceptable in THX® Certified theaters.

Reverberation Control

Sound often reflects off walls, floors, and ceilings, combining to create complex acoustic patterns. THX specifies reverberation time requirements for each theater to optimize sound quality.
The reverberation time measured during testing must conform to the calculated time for each THX® Certified theater.

支配人が見たTHX劇場の魅力とは？

私は海老名（、旧ワーナー・マイカル・シネマズ海老名）に着任して初めてTHXシアターで映画を鑑賞しました。
上映が始まり、カーテンが開き、THXロゴの映像とともに音が流れた瞬間、
の音の立ち上がりや空間の広がりに、毎回強い印象を受けたことを覚えています。

THXの特性を強く実感した作品として印象に残っているのが、「スター・ウォーズ」におけるライトセーバーの対決シーンです。
金属音や衝撃音の響きは身体に伝わる感覚がありながらも、不快さを感じさせず、
音と映像が自然に一体となった印象を受けました。場内に広がるお客さまの反応や空気感を含め、「映画館ならではの体験」を改めて実感する機会となりました。

上映後にお客さまが見せてくださる表情からも、作品の魅力がしっかりと伝わっていることを感じ、映画という表現の力、そしてそれを支える上映環境の重要性を再認識しました。
